Wordscapes Bonus Words: What They Are and How to Find Them
January 25, 2026
Wordscapes Bonus Words Explained
Every Wordscapes level has two types of words: required answers (needed to complete the level) and bonus words (optional extras that earn you coins).
What Are Bonus Words?
Bonus words are valid English words that can be formed from your level's letters, but don't appear on the crossword board. You get coins for finding them, but they don't affect your ability to complete the level.
How Does the Game Decide What's a Bonus Word?
Wordscapes uses its own internal dictionary. If a word:
- Can be spelled from the available letters
- Is in Wordscapes' word list
- Is NOT one of the required board answers
...then it's a bonus word. The dictionary is largely based on standard English dictionaries, but includes some archaic and uncommon words, while excluding slurs and profanity.
Strategies for Finding Bonus Words
Try two-letter combos. Words like AE, OE, TA, ET are often in Wordscapes' dictionary and easy to miss.
Try plurals and verb forms. If PINE is an answer, try PINES, PINEAL, PINED, PINER.
Try -ER, -EST, -ED, -ING on every short word. These grammatical variations produce a huge number of bonus words.
Use WordscapesMate. Every level page lists all known bonus words. Check your level now.
Are Bonus Words Worth Hunting?
Yes — coins are used to buy hints and power-ups. Finding bonus words consistently means you'll never run out of hints when you need them. High-difficulty levels often have 10–20 bonus words worth discovering.
